Quantum Computing for Industry: From Fundamentals to Simulation.

Discussion session

On September 21, 2026, CQTA and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt co-hosted the workshop "Quantum Computing for Industry: From Fundamentals to Simulation" in Berlin. The full-day event brought together researchers, industry professionals, and innovation leaders to explore how quantum computing can move beyond laboratory research and into practical industrial workflows.

The program was designed to foster focused knowledge-sharing and provide participants with both foundational knowledge and insights into emerging applications. The day began with sessions led by CQTA's Dr. Enrico M. Brehm and Dr. Fernando Gago Encinas, who provided an overview of the current state of quantum computing and introduced the mathematical foundations used to model quantum mechanics. Dr. Stefan Kühn explored the opportunities offered by quantum simulation, highlighting its potential to address complex problems that are beyond the practical capabilities of today's classical computers.

Discussion session

Dr. Franziska Greinert from Quantum Valley Lower Saxony presented the European Competence Framework for Quantum Technologies, demonstrating how it can serve as a concrete blueprint for structuring internal workforce development, learning, and onboarding in quantum technologies.

Sören Wilkening from Leibniz Universität Hannover introduced STURM, a domain-specific quantum programming language designed to simplify algorithm development and the integration of quantum routines. The approach aims to make quantum computing more accessible to domain experts and other users without deep expertise in quantum technologies.

Discussion session

A special thank you goes to the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt for hosting the workshop, and to all the participants from industry and research who joined us in Berlin. Their engagement and exchange of ideas contributed to a valuable discussion about the future of quantum computing and its role in computational research and development.
